Weekly reflections: On Uncertainty and Causality:
The uncertainty principle ( wave particle duality) has implications for the notion of causality/determinism. As one proceeds downward in size at the atomic dimensions-eventually one cannot measure/determine ,both the position and momentum of a particle- and upon attempting to measure a variable, the outcome(s) are influenced by our own observation.
- So what is wrong with this law of nature " Whats wrong with uncertainty? For some professions, and cultural paradigms that rely on utilizing power and control -( needing precise deterministic and quick results), a sense of uncertainty about the future for example- generates a " threat or alert response,"in the limbic system, i.e.- a need to operate from an illusion of control hologram. Lets observe how the economy works and how selling the perception of more certainty creates the illusion of safety- for example some parts of accounting and consulting generate their income by helping executives experience a perception of increasing certainty through strategic planning and forecasting their timeline for profit outcomes. Which creates a burst of dopamine and the brain circuit " feels good,"and has a sense of safety " net."
I will argue that operating from a " all or nothing," deterministic/causality framework -(principle-that everything that has happened was the only possible thing that could happened at that point in time and space and that choice is an illusion-) could make it difficult for that person to practice mindfulness skills, and I wonder if they can build insight of self in relation to others and the world without experiencing a sense of threat or danger. However, if one does not operate in an absolute system of causality, and there is a balance between certainty and uncertainty approach to living- this would create less anxious drives in the limbic system.
Hence accepting the reality of choice amid multiple possibilities seems a more useful basis for living-for the sake of our own mental and physical health.
Is the Universe Weird?
It depends who you are asking----and how one defines this word.
I feel the more eccentric the better.... who wants to be normal? is there such a phenomena? and who gets to defines what is normal......
